Aftermath of Hurricane Melissa
On October 29 , 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica, causing severe damage across six parishes and affecting over 170 communities. According to the latest reports, homes were destroyed, infrastructure damaged, and thousands of families left without food, water or shelter.
Within the rural community of Parottee in Black River, St. Elizabeth—our home—the impact was deep: crops lost, roads cut off, and our local primary schools and food‑pantry operations disrupted.
As your dedicated community partner since August 5, 2020, the Parottee Enrichment Project (PEP) mobilized immediately to launch our Hurricane Melissa Relief & Recovery Programme.
Here’s how we’re acting:
Emergency Food & Water Distribution: Providing essential supplies to displaced families in Parottee, Black River and surrounding areas.
Shelter & Temporary Housing Support: Distributing tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, bedding, and solar lights to households whose homes were damaged.
Healthcare Outreach: Partnering with Black River Hospital and mobile clinics to provide first‑aid kits, hygiene kits and health screenings in relief zones.
School Recovery & Education Continuity: Ensuring our two sponsored primary schools can reopen safely with supplies and infrastructural repairs.
Long‑Term Rebuilding: Planning the construction of a community clinic in Hill Top, Parottee to serve ongoing health needs.
